In keeping with Kootenay culture, the mountain bike trails in Nelson and Kaslo appeal to the spirit of mountain biking. Ride gentle railway grades along forest trails that start minutes from town, over restored trestle bridges, and into some of the most peaceful country you’ll ever encounter. For those of you who need to feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins, there is a slew of steep, rocky, technical tracks and enough stunts, ladders, and big drops to keep you coming back for more.

For post-ride fun, this area is also home to hot springs, Kootenay Lake for paddling and fishing, hiking trails, farmers markets, art galleries, museums, breweries, and more.

Getting Here & Trail Access

Offering spectacular mountain scenery, driving is the most popular option for many visitors to reach Nelson and Kaslo.

A drive along Highway 3 provides access from the Lower Mainland and South Okanagan to the west and from southern Alberta and the East Kootenays to the east. Driving along Highway 6 offers scenic access from the North Okanagan and you can take Highway 23 along Upper Arrow Lake to Highway 6 from Revelstoke.

  • Revelstoke - 250 km ( mi), 3 hours 30 minutes
  • Calgary - 615 km ( mi), 7 hours

Getting to Kaslo and Nelson by air is easy via West Kooteay Regional Airport in nearby Castlegar and Trail Regional Airport just outside Rossland.
