Posted on Jul 25, 2025 by Grant Lamont

British Columbia’s Sea to Sky region is known globally for its adrenaline-pumping black and double-black features, however, this area has another story to tell—one of breathtaking landscapes, flowing singletrack, and welcoming trails that cater to those who prioritize fun, fitness, and keeping their wheels firmly on the ground.

In collaboration with Mountain Biking BC, this video explores the unique experiences ideal for riders who value connection over chaos and serenity over big drops. It’s a tribute to the rich history, evolving trail culture, and the passionate people who’ve made this region a mountain biking haven for decades.

A Trail Network Like No Other

The Sea to Sky region is a treasure chest of trails interwoven with historic logging roads. These pathways have enabled organic, sustainable trail building that accommodates riders of all levels, offering low-angle climbs and flowy descents that wind through lush forests and breathtaking vistas. From beginner-friendly greens to intermediate blues, every trail invites riders to savor the beauty of nature while staying comfortably in their element.

North Shore: Where It All Began

The North Shore of Vancouver is the birthplace of freeride mountain biking and has grown into a family-friendly riding destination. With meticulously maintained trails on Mount Fromme, Mount Seymour, and the Demonstration Forest (Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve), this zone offers something for everyone. Thanks to the North Shore Mountain Bike Association (NSMBA), these trails are a cornerstone of the region’s mountain biking legacy.

Squamish: Flowing Trails in a Scenic Playground

A short drive north, Squamish boasts an extensive trail network built and maintained by the Squamish Off-Road Cycling Association (SORCA). Nestled amid towering peaks and emerald lakes, the greens and blues of Valleycliffe, Diamond Head, and Alice Lake Provincial Park are perfect for riders seeking adventure without pushing their limits. Combine this with Squamish’s excellent parking, signage, and local amenities, and you have an unparalleled experience.

Whistler: The Mecca of Mountain Biking

No mention of the Sea to Sky is complete without Whistler. For 35 years, the Whistler Off Road Cycling Association (WORCA) has poured their hearts into making it a world-class riding destination. Beyond the iconic Whistler Mountain Bike Park, the Whistler Valley offers a vast array of trails for every skill level. Add in fantastic dining, cozy lodging, pristine swimming lakes, and even heli-biking with Alp X, and Whistler becomes a bucket-list destination for riders everywhere.

The Sunshine Coast: A Hidden Gem

Just a ferry ride away, the Sunshine Coast feels like stepping into a dream. Time slows down here, and the forest comes alive with light shimmering off ancient trees draped in moss and lichen. With trails spanning from Langdale to Pender Harbour on the Southern Sunshine Coast and beyond to Powell River on the Northern Sunshine Coast, this tranquil setting offers everything from smooth climbs to enchanting singletrack. Pair your ride with visits to local breweries, cideries, and quaint eateries, and you’ll wonder why you hadn’t explored this hidden gem sooner.

Supporting the Trails

Behind every great ride is a dedicated community. From NSMBA to SORCA, WORCA, CMTBA, and QRCA these organizations ensure the trails stay in top shape for locals and visitors alike. Donations and support from riders are vital to maintaining this world-class network, so every turn of the pedals contributes to keeping the Sea to Sky region a mountain biking paradise.
