With trails for all abilities, this 5-day route through the Kootenays is not to be missed. Ride the downhill bike part at Fernie, endless trails in Nelson and Kimberley, and the Seven Summits in Rossland. Post-ride, fuel up at local breweries in every town.

Follow this itinerary for a five-day long road trip exploring BC’s Kootenays.

Fernie

Start Fernie

This first stop is full of adrenaline-fuelled downhill rides and alpine vistas. Ride the downhill bike park at Fernie Alpine Resort before checking out the trails on Castle Mountain and Morrissey Ridge. For an epic day out, ride the Lazy Lizard to Island Lake Lodge for lunch with a view.

Kimberley

Stop 1 Kimberley

Head for the little mountain town of Kimberley and ride the Kimberley Nature Park with trails for all riders. Tackle the cross-country network at Lois Creek Trails or the Nordic Club Trail Network and head to Bootleg Mountain for downhill trails.

Rossland

Stop 2 Rossland

Rossland is the place to ride one of the IMBA Epic designated trails—the Seven Summits—for a journey riding up and down, up and down...you get the idea. Check out the Get Lost Adventure Centre at the base of RED Mountain for more adventures in the area and rest your head at the Josie Hotel or Nowhere Special Hostel at the base of the mountain.

Finish Nelson / Kaslo

The eclectic town of Nelson is an outdoor bike paradise. Get caffeinated at Oso Negro Cafe before riding Powerslave and the trails on Nelson’s North ShoreTube the Slocan River to decompress and relax and stroll the local shops and endless restaurants of Nelson’s downtown.
